Hey everyone! It's Skygirl! (Obviously). And I'm not much of a blogger, but I do like to review things!!! And I really need to vent about The Hunger Games movie. Its spoiler free, I won't say too much, and hopefully it will help you in seeing it or not.
I'm a Hunger Games Fangirl, I'm still not done reading them (I'm on book 3). But still a fangirl, and I'm also pretty open minded and understanding even if I don't like it. So I'll take that into my review.
First off, it'll help if you've read it before seeing it. If you have not read it, you'll still get the story, some details you'll be a bit confused, things are different from the book, but not too different some are understanding. You won't understand a character as well. For readers there are disappointments, but its still a good movie.
The casting was well done, the actor of Peeta was well done and blew me out of the water. He's got the looks, and is a great character. Also, just minor things he did that made you love his character. For example, his face expressions. A look of innocence, and more. If you choose to see it, you'll know what I mean. :) All the looks matched the characters well. Aside from Katniss, I don't think she looks like a Katniss. Well, she sort of does, but its her face. It's too round, it doesn't fit Katniss. I've pictures Katniss more of a slender jaw and you can see where her jaw ends and its more sleek not so round. It just ruined the look for me. If you still don't get it, its hard for me to explain. Also, it is just me does Katniss sound a lot like Natalie Portman? Even somewhat looks like her, didn't click until heard her voice. Obviously Katniss was a disappointment for me. I was hoping the acting would make up for the look issues, but it didn't. She did a pretty good job, she missed some things. I haven't seen her in anything else now I have to look it up. Maybe the director told her to, or its her style I don't know. All the characters had a great look to them put into them. I'm a Cinna fan, for some reason when I read about him, I really liked him. I didn't understand why, I told some friends who read it, and they said because we're both artists. And really supportive ones. I loves seeing Cinna put into the movie, he's such a great character. And all the others as well. So yes, casting is well done! I loved the cast.
Now onto the crew, in this movie it seems that there are no known names, (But I did hear that actress of Katniss got a award of some sort). Its all new people, which I can see that it's a good thing, I liked that. But the camera crew gave me headaches. All fight scenes were shaky, as if the camera man was in below 0 degree weather and in a tee shirt. My friend said its as if they dropped it. Also, sometimes the camera moved too fast, it was hard to see what was going on, it gave me headaches. To me who likes to study film, I found some camera angles odd, but it was new. I like seeing new styles.
Also, the costumes were great, I enjoyed them. Although, the first interview outfits were a disappointment, the big part of them that makes them amazing didn't look as good as they were told, more should have been added. So that was quite a bummer. It didn't look that epic like it should. Just for all you book .readers out there, don't be too bummed. The visual with makeup was well done. Effie looked like a female Johnny Deep as the Mad Hatter. XD That's who she reminded me of. Haymich was sooooo well done with his looks!! Just perfect!!!
The Directing, that ones is the hardest to tell. I can't tell if Katniss' acting part with 0% emotion is the actress or the director. I know the character is almost no emotion, but sometimes there isn't enough at some parts where there are she still seems too blank.
I'll get over this over time, I know it.
